Hjemmelaget horn med ost og skinke! (oppskrift) / Homemade horn with cheese and ham! (recipe)

Ofc, did we need some baking during Christmas as well, you know!

Ingredienser:

1kg mel
1 ts salt
200g smør
4dl melk
1 pk gjær
400g skinke i terninger
400g revet ost

Framgangsmåte:

1. Bland 700g mel og salt i en bolle.
2. Smelt smøret og ha i melken. La dette bli lunket.
3. Tilsett gjæra i melkeblandingen og ror godt.

In English:

Ingredients:

1kg flour
1tbs salt
200g butter
4dl milk
50g yeast
400g ham in dices
400g grated cheese

Let's get to it:

1. Mix 700g flour and the salt into a boll.
2. Melt the butter and add the milk. Let it cool down to body temperature.
3. Add the yeast and mix well.
4. Place all the dry ingredients on one side of the ball, and then add the wet ones on the other side. Mix well until you get a sticky consistence.
5. Little by little you FOLD IN some more flour until you get a solid, but still a little stick dough.
6. Let the dough rest while you cut the ham into dices or grated the cheese. I didn't watch the clock, since the dough is not supposed to swollen so much.
7. Sprinkle some more flour on the table, before taking out the dough and cut it into two peaces. Flour your roller pin and role the dough into a pizza shape, around 1-2 cm thick.
8. Cut the pizza shaped dough into 8 pizza slices and fill them with cheese and ham. Role them together and let them rest for 30 min or longer, until they have grown bigger.

How to make homemade Marshmellow-Fondant !

Since so many people keep asking me how I make MMF, I've decided to give an explanation on how to make one.

MMF:
200 g Marshmellow
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons melted butter
500g icing sugar
a cup of corn starch

Procedure on MMF:
1 Take 200 g marshmellow in a bowl and add 2 tablespoons of water.
2 Insert in the micro until they are inflated/melted. (If you don't have mirco, read tips further down)
NOTE: You must be looking, because this can go fast!
3 When the marshmallows is finished, stir and add the icing sugar until you manage to make a "lump" of it. If you want the whole fondant in same color, please add the food coloring now. Wrap it in plastic when you're done.

This is where you can choose to go two different ways.
  1. You can leave the MMF in the fridge for as long has you want, has long as you keep it completely sealed. NOTE: Leaving it over night will also make the color on the fondant stronger.
  2. Let it cool down in the fridge at least one hour before use. I will not recommend start using it right away, when its all soften and difficult to work with.

Tips:
  • If you don't have a microwave, don't worry. Just use a bowl above a  saucepan with boiling water. It would take less time, but has long as the marshmallows are getting melted that's the main thing!
  • When you're going to make the cover of the cake or do some decorations, use corn starch to prevent it from getting sticky. It's very easy to just brush off, and it doesn't leave any taste on the fondant. If you cant brush it off, due to small details like rose leaves and such, just use a paintbrush with a little bit of water on.
  • When you want to use it, you can either take it out and and let it soften on the kitchen bench, or you could start working on it right away. It's very hard, but just keep working on those muscles, hehe!
  • If you want to make decorations like flowers and so on, the dryness take around 2-5 days depending on the thickness on the fondant. I would recommend buying CMC and add to the fondant. This would make the fondant dry faster.
  • If you want to save it for more then one week, I would recommend sealing in the plastic as well has a completely sealed box in the fridge. This would make it last even longer and even up to 2-3 months.
  • When all done with the covering and the decorations on the cake, keep the cake in the fridge, but place it in rom temperature around 15 min until its ready to be placed on the table. DO NOT have food in the fridge which can transmit the smell over to cake, such as onions and other vegetables and food. If you have a plastic cover in hard materials, which would not destroy the cake or decorations, then it's brilliant, use it!

You can do this, and good luck!! :)

[Bake] Homemade (blue) muffins recipe

Ingredients:
  • 300g flour
  • 3tsp baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 200g sugar
  • 120g butter
  • 2dl milk
  • Food coloring if you want to color the muffins*

* I chose blue.

How to make:
  1. Put the oven on 200C/392F
  2. Mix flour, baking powder and sugar together in a bowl.
  3. Melt the butter and add it into the bowl.
  4. Add milk and mix good.
  5. Add one by one egg and mix it well.
  6. Add around 3/4 of the mixture into the muffin cups.
  7. Bake them in the middle of the oven for around 15-20 min.

Ingredients for the topping:
  • 100g butter
  • 500g icing sugar*
  • Some food coloring for the look**
  • Flavoring***
* It might happen that you don't need all of it, but it's better to have too much then too little. Just taste often till you get the thickness and sweet-taste like you want it.
** I used red food color, since I was going to use raspberry flavor in the cream
*** If you don't have any flavor, don't worry. You can also eat the topping without it.

How to:
  1. Mix the butter and the icing sugar till you get the thickness and taste as you wish. Just remember that if you add flavor, you will probably add some more icing sugar.
  2. Put it into a bag and decorate, or just use a knife.

[Interior] Homemade Mosquito Trap

Have you noticed the Mosquitos are already out! Here is a homemade trap to help keep you and the kiddos from being a blood donor!!!

HOMEMADE MOSQUITO TRAP:
Items needed:
1 cup of water
1/4 cup of brown sugar
1 gram of yeast
1 2-liter bottle

HOW:
1. Cut the plastic bottle in half.
2. Mix brown sugar with hot water. Let cool. When cold, pour in the bottom half of the bottle.
3. Add the yeast. No need to mix. It creates carbon dioxide, which attracts mosquitoes.
4. Place the funnel part, upside down, into the other half of the bottle, taping them together if desired.
5. Wrap the bottle with something black, leaving the top uncovered, and place it outside in an area away from your normal gathering area. (Mosquitoes are also drawn to the color black.)

Change the solution every 2 weeks for continuous control.
